How to use this Julian date calendar

The three-digit number in each cell is the day of the year. To build a full Julian date code, put the year in front: in 2023, July 21 is day 202, so the 7-digit code is 2023202 and the 5-digit code is 23202. To go the other way, find the number in the grid and read off its month and day, or use the Julian date → calendar converter.

When this calendar is the right tool

Use a year-specific chart when the year is known and you need a quick, auditable lookup without relying on a script or formula. It is useful for production logs, inventory rotation, batch documentation and checking a date exported from a legacy system. The grid gives only the ordinal day-of-year value: it is not the astronomical Julian Date used for time-stamped scientific observations.

For a new record, prefer the seven-digit YYYYDDD form. It keeps the year and three-digit day together, sorts chronologically as text, and avoids the century ambiguity of a five-digit YYDDD value. A three-digit value by itself is incomplete unless the year is established elsewhere in the record.
